VIA YOGA SURF
Surfing is a connection to nature. It's a form of self-expression that can be both exhilarating and humbling. When you're surfing, you're out in the fresh air and sunshine, increasing your muscle tone, cardiovascular health, confidence, mental clarity and general wellbeing. Surfing and yoga are complementary activities: Both strengthen your body, quiet and focus your mind, and make you feel fully alive and in the moment. Both build flexibility, balance, focus, and endurance. Both can be spiritual, meditative. Surfing is yoga on the water and it is fun.
When you join us for a Yoga & Surfing vacation, the vigorous morning yoga class gets you ready to paddle out and pop up on your board. It helps you find the focus you need to catch a wave, and keeps you feeling loose and flexible. The gentler evening class helps you to stretch your aching muscles and recover from your afternoon on the water. Each activity is the perfect complement to the other.
Beginners
It's ok to be a beginner; everyone was at one time. Follow the rules, be considerate, stay out of the way, and you'll be fine. Stay closer to the beach where the white wash is, rather than out where the experienced surfers are. If you can't control your board, you'll be a danger to yourself and others. Know your limitations. If you can't tread water for five minutes or swim at least 100 yards, think twice about surfing; you need to be able to make it back to shore safely if your board is carried away. If you're in an unfamiliar area, ask someone local about what to expect. Always surf with a buddy. Be aware-always check in front of you and behind you for other surfers, swimmers, and fishing boats. Wear a good waterproof sunblock, a rashguard, and board shorts.
