Via Yoga is pleased to welcome Anna Carbonell to our 2011 line up. She comes to us from NYC where she is busy teaching all throughout Manhattan. This week, guests will start each morning with a strong Vinyasa flow class following a morning meditation session, in our fabulous open-aired yoga studio. These classes will infuse you with fluidity and confidence preparing you for your surf lessons under the expert guidance of our local Via Yoga surf instructors. Evening classes will be a Yin + Restorative theme, focusing on the lower part of the body and shoulder openers; a perfect way to end the day after surfing each afternoon.
Anna has been teaching for years and has found a unique balance that incorporates love, warmth, and compassion in the fluidity of the asanas and serenity of the Yin postures. You will find yourself restored and renewed after this week with this extraordinary teacher. Join us!
About Anna
Anna, a native-born Filipina, learned her first shoulder stand when she was about 4 years old from her father, Rolando "Swami Deva Leelananda" Carbonell, who helped pioneered yoga in the Philippines. Her first true experience of the practice of yoga was when she attended Ananda Marga ashram in her homeland when she was just a little girl. Upon growing up, Anna took interests in other things like acting, modeling, Hawaiian and Tahitian dancing and found herself veering away from yoga. It wasn't until the year 2000 did she reconnect with yoga at Jivamukti Yoga Center under Sharon Gannon, David Life, Yogeswari and other extraordinary teachers. It was there where she found her way back to yoga and began to fulfill her passion to teach yoga and is always striving to deepen her yoga practice both on and off the mat. In addition to being an advance certified Jivamukti teacher Anna is also certified to teach Yin Yoga under the tutelage of Sarah Powers.
Anna infuses creative sequencing in her Vinyasa and Jivamukti yoga classes while incorporating exuberant and mildly eclectic music, gentle to powerful hands-on alignment, and a mix of traditional Vedic and contemporary teachings and commentary. You may also find yourself chanting in Sanskrit, flowing to Hawaiian music then fiercely moving to U2 songs, and relaxing during Savasana added with loving healing touches..
